Darkness

An audio tapes sounds out,

As two candles flicker

And cast strange silhouettes

Upon the darkened walls.

Unhappy memories,

Darkened by the absence of natural light

Hang above my head

And peer down at me

With sinister connotations.

From beneath the warmth and safety of my quilt,

An icy draft chills my face

And a host of unrecognisable figures

Make their way over

To scare me after dark.

When the day draws to an end,

Close your eyes tight

And pray for your safety

As the night

Does not guarantee sleep

Sunrise
